The 30 yard container in Dallas

The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 8 feet of ground as the 20 — the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural choice when a job is producing a lot of bulky material but the site has no more room: a whole-house gut in Kessler Park, a teardown-and-rebuild in Preston Hollow, a restaurant refit in Deep Ellum.

Because the sides are six feet high, most of what goes in it is carried or thrown rather than dropped in from a wheelbarrow. Contractors with a skid steer or a crew do not mind; a homeowner working alone usually prefers two 20s.

Whole-house gut jobs, new builds and big roofs

Renovations that take a house back to the studs fill a 30 in a hurry: every cabinet, every door, the drywall from every room. Large roofing jobs — the double-layer tear-offs that follow a bad hail year — use the 30 for its higher weight allowance as much as for the volume.

On new construction and demolition around Dallas it is often the first container on site, taking framing offcuts, packaging and the mixed debris that comes out before the heavy demolition starts.

Weight, swaps and long jobs

Four to five tons is included. Jobs that run for weeks usually work on a swap schedule — we drop an empty when we pull the full one, so the site never waits. Tell us the expected duration when you book and we will set the rhythm.

Suitability

Is the 30 yard the right size for you?

Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.

Choose the 30 yard for

  • Whole-house renovation to the studs
  • New construction and demolition debris
  • Large roof tear-offs and double layers
  • Commercial remodels and office strip-outs
  • Big estate cleanouts with furniture

Pick a different size for

  • Heavy inert loads only — concrete, dirt, rubble belong in a 10 loaded level
  • Small residential cleanouts (you will pay for air)
  • Sites with no 35 ft straight run for the truck
  • Hazardous or prohibited material of any kind

Placing a 30 yard container on a DFW property

It needs about 35 feet of clear, level driveway or lot, and overhead clearance for the lift. On your own driveway or lot in Dallas we found no City rule requiring a permit; in a street or alley the City treats it as occupying the right-of-way and Public Works Right-of-Way Management (214-948-4290) issues the permits. Other cities have their own rules — several bar containers from the right-of-way outright, and many reserve roll-offs to their contracted hauler. Boards go under the rails as standard. The city-by-city guide covers every city.

Answers

30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked

Is a 30 yard too big for a house?

For a normal cleanout, yes. For a renovation that strips several rooms to the studs, no — that volume arrives faster than people expect. We will tell you honestly which it is.

Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?

Yes. We pull the full container and drop an empty in the same visit. Contractors with multi-week jobs usually book the first swap at the start.

How much does a 30 yard dumpster weigh when full?

It depends entirely on what is in it. Four to five tons of disposal is included; a 30 full of roofing can exceed that, so we plan heavy loads with you up front.

Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?

We found no City of Dallas rule requiring one on your own driveway or lot. In a street or alley the City treats it as occupying the right-of-way — Public Works Right-of-Way Management (214-948-4290) is the office to ask, and we flag it when you book.
