Everything people ask before they book
If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the city will fine you, and what you cannot throw in. The answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (214) 239-1274 — a real person in Dallas will answer it.
Part 1
Pricing
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Dallas?
Typically $350 to $750 flat rate depending on size: a 10 yard at the low end, a 30 at the high end, with the 40 quoted per job. That includes delivery, pickup, a 7-day rental and the stated tonnage. Call for a firm number for your address.
Is delivery and pickup included in the price?
Yes. Delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal up to the included weight are all in the one flat price. No fuel surcharge, no pickup fee.
What causes extra charges?
Three things: going over the included weight, keeping the container past the rental window, and prohibited items found in the load. We explain all three on the first call so there is nothing to find later.
Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or roofing?
Not more per se — but dense material uses up the included tonnage fast, so we size heavy loads differently (a 10 yard loaded level) and tell you where the weight line is before you load.
What payment methods do you accept?
Major credit and debit cards, business checks and electronic payment. Payment is usually taken when the booking is confirmed; repeat commercial clients can be invoiced monthly.
Part 2
Sizing
What size dumpster do I need?
A 10 for a bathroom or a garage, a 15 for a kitchen or flooring, a 20 for a whole-house cleanout or multi-room remodel, a 30 for a renovation to the studs or a big roof, a 40 for commercial demolition. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.
What happens if I order too small?
You pay for a second haul, which costs more than the step up to the next size would have. When in doubt, size up — or describe the job and let us size it.
What is the biggest dumpster you offer?
A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 8 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, 5–6 tons included. It is a job-site container, not a driveway one.
How full can I fill it?
Level with the top rail. Anything above the rail cannot be transported safely or legally, and the driver will have to leave it or ask you to unload it.
How much does a roof tear-off produce?
A 20 yard handles up to about 30 squares of asphalt shingle. Larger roofs and double layers want a 30 for the higher weight allowance.
Part 3
Permits, placement and city rules
Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?
On your own driveway or private property in Dallas, we found no City rule requiring one. In a street, alley or sidewalk the City treats it as occupying the right-of-way, and Public Works Right-of-Way Management (214-948-4290) issues the permits. Other cities differ — Cedar Hill bars obstructions in the right-of-way outright, Lewisville requires containers on private property — so check your city page.
Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?
In Dallas, only with the City's right-of-way permission, and a lane closure needs a traffic control plan. Several suburbs prohibit it outright. Allow days, not hours. Tell us when you book and we line the delivery up with it.
Why do some of your city pages say the city reserves roll-offs?
Because they do. Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Lewisville, Mesquite, Arlington, Rowlett and DeSoto have ordinances that make the city or its contracted hauler the only provider of commercial and construction containers, roll-offs included. Dallas, Garland, Grand Prairie and Cedar Hill require a hauler to hold a city franchise. Richardson issues a C&D hauler permit. Irving leaves construction haulers alone. We quote the section on each page and tell you where your job stands.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Boards go under the rails as standard on paved drives. The driver will tell you before delivery if a surface needs more.
Does my HOA need to approve a dumpster?
Often, yes — many DFW HOAs have placement rules on top of the city's. Check with the association before delivery day.
How much space does the truck need?
A straight, level run of about 25 feet for a 10 yard, 35 feet for a 20 or 30 and 40 feet for a 40, plus overhead clearance for the lift. Low branches and power lines are the usual problem.
Part 4
Booking and delivery
How do I book a dumpster?
Call (214) 239-1274. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.
How fast can you deliver?
Same-day in Dallas, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Grand Prairie and Irving when you call before noon; next morning for most of the rest of the metroplex.
What are your hours?
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm requests go to the same number.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
7 days as standard. Call or text before the pickup date and we extend it at a small daily rate.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Agree the spot with us, keep it clear of vehicles and trailers, and the driver sets it down. Same for pickup.
Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?
Yes. Staggered deliveries and swaps across several sites are routine for contractors and property managers.
Part 5
Service area
What cities do you serve?
Dallas, Irving, Grand Prairie, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Garland, Mesquite, Richardson, Carrollton, Lewisville, Arlington, Rowlett, Rockwall, Plano, Allen, Frisco and McKinney — each with its own page. Duncanville, Farmers Branch, Addison and The Colony too — call.
Where is Metro Bin Dallas based?
At 4540-4576 Brass Way, Dallas, TX 75236, in far south-west Dallas off S Cockrell Hill Road between Ledbetter Drive and I-20.
Is service different in the far corners of the metroplex?
Only the timing. Plano, Frisco, McKinney and Rockwall are 30 to 45 miles from the yard and usually next-morning rather than same-day. Same price, possibly a small distance adjustment said up front.
Do some cities restrict who can deliver a roll-off?
Yes — most of the northern and eastern suburbs reserve roll-offs to their contracted hauler, and Dallas itself requires private haulers to hold a city franchise. Each city page says what that city's code says, and we tell you where your job stands when you call.
Part 6
What we take
What can I put in a dumpster?
Household junk and furniture, construction debris (wood, drywall, flooring, siding), yard waste, roofing shingles, metal, plastic, cardboard, and concrete, brick or tile in a container loaded level.
What can't go in a dumpster?
Paint, solvents and automotive fluids, batteries, electronics, propane tanks and fuel containers, tires, medical waste, asbestos and hazardous chemicals. The North Texas guide says where each of those goes instead.
Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?
No. Texas requires an asbestos survey and a notice to the Department of State Health Services at least 10 working days before demolition of a public or commercial building, and a licensed abatement contractor handles the removal.
Can I put concrete or dirt in a regular dumpster?
Yes, in a 10 yard loaded level. Heaped in a 20 or 30 it exceeds the weight the truck can lift.
Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?
Mattresses and most appliances, yes. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners need the refrigerant removed first — tell us and we handle them separately.
What happens to the debris after pickup?
Clean concrete, metal and green waste are routed for recovery where North Texas facilities allow. Mixed debris goes to a permitted landfill. Nothing goes to a random dump.
