The 10 yard container in Dallas
The 10 yard is the one we send when the job is one room, one garage, or one weekend. It is the shortest container we run, so it fits the driveways the bigger boxes cannot — the 1950s and 60s lots in Oak Cliff and Casa Linda, townhouse drives, the narrow side yards off Lower Greenville. The trade-off is volume: fill it with cabinets and drywall and it is full fast.
Where the 10 yard earns its keep is dense material. Concrete, brick, roofing shingles, soil, tile — those hit the weight allowance long before a bigger box would look full, so a 10 yard loaded level with a broken-up patio is usually the cheaper, safer call. Tell us what is going in and we will say so.
Small remodels, roofing tear-offs and heavy loads
A full bathroom tear-out — tile, tub, vanity, a bit of drywall — sits comfortably in a 10 yard. So does a two-car garage that has been collecting boxes since the last move, or a roof repair of a few squares after a hailstorm. A whole roof wants a 20.
Dallas homeowners also use it for what the City's brush and bulky pickup will not take. The City of Dallas Sanitation page is explicit: no building materials, bricks, rock, asphalt, gravel or concrete, no roofing, no dirt or sod. A 10 yard of broken-up concrete and busted pavers is exactly the gap it fills.
Heavy material and the weight line
Weight is the limit that matters for this size. One to two tons is the included allowance; a 10 yard filled to the rail with concrete can run past that, so for all-concrete loads we will tell you to load it level, not heaped, or split it across two hauls. Mixed household junk never gets close.
Suitability
Is the 10 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 10 yard for
- Bathroom or small kitchen remodel
- Garage, attic or shed cleanout
- Broken-up concrete, brick, pavers or tile loaded level
- A few squares of roofing repair
- Furniture from one or two rooms
Pick a different size for
- A whole-house cleanout — that is a 20 or 30
- Full roof tear-offs
- Loose yard waste from a big lot (bulky, goes in a 20 fast)
- Anything on the banned list: paint, propane, tires, batteries
Placing a 10 yard container on a DFW property
It needs about 25 feet of clear, level driveway and a straight run for the truck, and overhead clearance for the lift. On your own driveway or lot in Dallas we found no City rule requiring a permit; in a street or alley the City treats it as occupying the right-of-way and Public Works Right-of-Way Management (214-948-4290) issues the permits. Other cities have their own rules — several bar containers from the right-of-way outright, and many reserve roll-offs to their contracted hauler. Boards go under the rails as standard. The city-by-city guide covers every city.

10 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How much space does a 10 yard dumpster need?
About 12 feet of container plus room for the truck to roll it off — roughly 25 feet of straight, level driveway. The driver walks the spot with you before setting it down.
Can I put concrete in a 10 yard dumpster?
Yes, and it is usually the right box for it. Load it level with the sides, not heaped, so it stays under the weight limit and can be lifted safely.
How long do I get it for?
The standard rental is 7 days. Call or text before pickup day if you need longer and we extend it at a small daily rate.
Is it the cheapest option?
For a small job, yes. If you think you might fill it and then some, a 15 or 20 yard costs less than a second haul — say what the job is and we will size it honestly.
